*Cinema — The Simpsons Movie
The Simpsons Movie (2007)
So good!
I was very impressed by how they recognized their limits and only crossed them a bit. Enough to surprise you a bit, but not disgust you.
Homer (obviously), Bart, and Lisa all had their own stories. Marge was kind of left out in that respect, even though of course she still had a major role in the film.
“Spider pig, spider pig, does whatever a spider pig does…”
*Cinema — Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
The Harry Potter movies get better (at least more interesting) as they get older.
I really wanted to punch the new professor.
Hermione and Ron had some pretty cute moments.
These cute moments were mostly due to the fact that Ron was actually not a complete ass a few times.
You did get the feeling that there was a lot of stuff they weren’t showing or explaining, but regardless they did a great job.
Totally enjoyed it.
*Cinema — 300
300 (2006)
I liked this so much more than I was expecting to.
For a movie that is entirely based on battles, it was really, really well done.
Lena Headey sounds exactly like Keira Knightley. Except less annoying.
I had never heard of Gerard Butler, but apparently he was in Phantom of the Opera. Which I never saw.
It went really quickly. I think I liked this more than The Gladiator (to be fair, I haven’t seen that in years, since I first saw it, but oh well).
Easily the best movie I’ve seen in a long, long while.
*Cinema — The Queen
The Queen (2006)
Although I heard great things I wasn’t expecting to love it.
It was actually pretty good.
She is a leader, who during her reign, has seen a tremendous amount of change. Her ability to realize that is what allows her to keep her throne.
I wonder how the royal family felt about the movie? How the Queen felt about Helen Mirren?
Helen Mirren obviously did a wonderful job. I guess if you are a British actor, you will at one point be in a Shakespeare film and a film about the monarchy. I believe I’ve seen her in both.
I didn’t know the Queen was even married. I knew there was a Prince Philip, but I had no idea who he was.
Speaking of Prince Philip, he seemed like a complete jerk.
The guy who played Prince Charles looked nothing like the real Prince Charles from the front, but exactly like Prince Charles from the back.
So many flowers. Still such a tragedy.
*Cinema — Lucky Number Slevin
Lucky Number Slevin (2006)
I really enjoyed it.
Even though I find Josh Hartnett entirely annoying.
I found the description on the back of the DVD a bit misleading. I think they took the wrong angle.
Lucy Liu looks like she is 18. She looks incredible. She also looks really tiny. I had no idea she was so short.
Even though Ben Kingsley is an exceptional actor, and I’m sure his accent was perfect, I still found his accent distracting.
I had no idea that Ben Kingsley and Stanley Tucci were in this movie.
Bruce Willis is once again wonderful at… playing Bruce Willis.
That poor guy who played Bubba. He will never not be Bubba.
*Cinema — Dreamgirls
Dreamgirls (2006)
I had no desire at all to see Dreamgirls when it first came out. I think it was mostly because of the tile. Its a bad title. It really is. I also just found the whole idea of it entirely irritating.
Jennifer Hudson sounds friggin incredible. I can see why she won an Oscar. I don’t remember her sounding that good on American Idol.
Eddie Murphy was just plain awesome.
I liked this so much more then I ever thought I would. I thought it was just going to be cheesy. And while it was cheesy, it was also entertaining and sounded great.
I am not big fan of movie-musicals. Definitely the best one I’ve seen in a long, long time.
I must confess I bought the soundtrack. Yes, I am embarrassed.
This is not a movie with major plot twists, or even a major plot. But it did manage to keep my attention somehow, and not much has been doing that lately.
