If you don’t hear the song in the background, I’m just disappointed in you.
It’s our problem-free philosophy…
Reblogged from Oooh, shiny!
Gregory Peck will always remind me of my dad. Peck actually did look like my dad, especially in respect to the hair and the glasses. But I’m sure its also because he played a lawyer in To Kill a Mockingbird and of course because I first saw To Kill a Mockingbird with my dad. I remember watching it with my dad as a little girl and thinking “wow, he looks like my dad”.
I guess its worth noting I probably saw the movie with him years before I read the book.
Reblogged from MY AFFAIR WITH NABOKOV.
Pretty much my favorite movie of all time. (Reality Bites)

I will always want to know what he said. Sigh.

Dirty Dancing, 1987 (dir. Emile Ardolino)
By Cohete
I’ve seen Dirty Dancing so many times that I can hear the the song “Hungry Eyes” in the background when I look at this (I’m 99% sure it plays during the second frame here).

*Cinema — Up In The Air
Up In The Air (2009)
Meh.
There wasn’t anything really that different about this movie. I found it pretty cliché in general.
Seriously, though, there is nothing more cliché than a non-committal guy growing up and wanting to commit.
I appreciated the fact that many small roles had recognizable actors (for example Zach Galifianakis, J.K. Simmons).
It could be because I watched in the wrong setting, but I wasn’t emotionally tied to this movie in any way.
Wasn’t bad… just wasn’t that great.
*Cinema — Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)
Despite my many criticisms, I still totally enjoyed it.
It was great to see Bumblebee kick some ass.
The two twin autobots were just absurd. We need more autobots, but… autobots you can actually like.
Same goes with the humans. I could have done without all the new humans, namely that college roommate.
Some of the jokes were just incredibly cheap.
Just about all dialogue was far, far too verbose. It was a bit exhausting. Even when someone was telling someone else to speak more clearly and concisely, the way the they were told was also way too verbose.
Regardless of my nitpicks, I really liked the film.
*Cinema — The Good Shepherd
The Good Shepherd (2006)
Much better than I was expecting.
Much more interesting than I was expecting.
Long, but not as slow as I imagined it would be.
It might be the only time I ever see Angelina Jolie play someone with such a disappointing life.
It’s also amazing how they can make someone so gorgeous look so… not gorgeous.
Matt Damon did a good job. When does Matt Damon not do a good job?
Though his character really needed to learn how to keep it in his pants. Or at least keep it in his pants long enough to think a bit first.
*Cinema — The Wreslter
The Wrestler (2008)
Extremely good.
This is just the kind of movie that stays with you. Hours after, you’ll still be thinking about it (even if you’re not sure why).
Mickey Rourke is just plain incredible. The role was just made for him. I still wish he had won the Academy Award for best actor.
Marisa Tomei did a great job too.
Its rare that something could be so fundamentally sad but not really make you upset.. just.. bothered.
*Cinema — Star Trek
Star Trek (2009)
I thought I was gonna like this, and I really did.
I’ve never seen a Star Trek movie before, but that didn’t matter. I knew the basic characters, the basic premise, and of course, all the well-known catch phrases.
I totally was so excited to see this because Jennifer Morrison (Cameron from House) was in it. Even if I knew she’d only be in it for a few minutes.
I had no idea that Eric Bana was Nero until.. right now, looking at imdb. Too funny. Eric Bana should only ever be the guy in Munich.
Simon Pegg, as Scotty, was easily my favorite character. Simon Pegg is just the best guy ever.
Every signature phrase made me just laugh out loud. It was so funny to hear people saying those lines and meaning them…
I just have a vision of the writers having a big white board with a list of all the signature phrases they needed to use in the movie, and writing the movie around those lines.
Overall I loved it. It was all I expected it to be, and even a little bit more.
*Cinema — Hard Candy
Hard Candy (2005)
I’d been meaning to see this for years, I just never got around to it. I had heard great things about it.
This is the third movie I’ve seen with Patrick Wilson in the last six months.
What I’ve learned from these three films is I’d much rather see Wilson as a cheating husband (the movie Little Children) or a pervert (this movie) rather than a dweeb (Watchmen).
I’ve also learned I have a fundamental issue with taking the guy seriously. Not that he’s not a good actor. I just… can’t really take him seriously all of the time.
Ellen Page really does look, and in many ways act, disarmingly young (which is the point). All I could see was a child.
Its so funny that Sandra Oh is billed third in this movie. I thought she’d have a much larger role.
I think I expected it to be more more disturbing, but I enjoyed it overall.
*Cinema — Adaptation
Adaptation (2002)
So I saw this when it first came out, and I finally happened to watch it again.
I couldn’t really remember that much from the first time, but regardless I feel like I got more out of it the second time around.
The story is really fantastic. I just ate it up this time around.
This is definitely one of Nicolas Cage’s least annoying roles. Also he apparently wore a fatsuit during the entire filming. I thought he looked pretty muscular for someone who was supposed to oafish.
Meryl Streep was really fantastic. I’m not a huge fan of her normally, but really she did a great job as Susan.
Its just so unique, just so creative.
Apparently Donald Kaufman was the first truly fictional person nominated for an Academy Award. How cool is that?
*Cinema — Role Models
Role Models (2008)
Of course I liked this more than I expected to.
The least annoying Seann William Scott has ever been. He was actually fairly normal.
McLovin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) needs to be in more movies.
Is there anything Elizabeth Banks isn’t in?
Bobb’e J. Thompson, who plays Ronnie Shields, was definitely the star of the movie. What a great kid.
A few of the actors from the old show The State were in the movie. It was great to see them.
Overall it was both sweeter and funnier than I expected it to be. Fun movie to watch.
